Nomads Bows Out of Title Race
Fever pitch the term used in football upon reaching the climax. With 10 games now remaining to close 2009/2010 TNM Super League, competition has became so stiff with all top eight positions up for grabs. Ironically Silver Strikers, Escom United, MTL Wanderers, Tigers F.C., Civo United, Red Lions, Bullets F.C and Moyale will amongst them share the positions.
The battle for the top position is now between the defending champions Silver Strikers and Escom United. The principal bankers have one game to wrap up the season while the power men have three games finish. A victory for the bankers is what stands between them and the title but for now the aces appear to be with the power men.
Celebrations have been put on hold for another week for the principal bankers until probably after Escom United away game to Bullets F.C next Saturday. Silver failed to utilize home ground last Saturday when they were held to a barren draw by Escom United.
The bankers have a tough game against MTL Wanderers on the final day of the season at home and if the power men are to register wins in their next fixtures against Bullets and Tigers it will be a tough game indeed.
The Nomads were held to a two all draw at home against Blackpool. The draw effectively eased them out of the championship race. Any further slip up by the Nomads will see them surrender their current position to the hounds in the name of Tigers or Bullets.
Lawson Chilewe first half strike put the Nomads ahead to raise false hope among their followers on Saturday. Come, the second half Blackpool were a completely changed side, they first leveled the score through Yamikani Tambala and then went ahead via a thunderous screamer from Charles Kalaile. A not so convincing penalty saved the day for the Nomads when Simplex Nthara converted.
The Nomads host Moyale on Sunday and a win will assure them a top three finish while Blackpool plays Blue Eagles the same day in Zomba.
Tigers F.C (47), Civo United (44), Red Lions (43) and Bullets F.C (42) can all claim this position four. The four top positions in the elite league are the paid ranks no wonder the battle for forth position is also very interesting.
Traveling Bullets held Moyale at their backyard. Divason Mlozi and Fundi Akidu strikes made sure Bullets return home with a point to keep their hope of being in the paid ranks alive. Dan Ziba and Weld Nkuliwa were the scorers for Moyale.
Eagle Strikers sojourns in the Capital City ended in misery since they went back to base without anything to show off.
On Saturday they were humbled by relegation candidates EPAC United 3 – 0. Sunganani Thomas struck twice while the other goal was scored by Pasala Mwammadi. On Sunday they went down 1-0 to Civo United who got a goal via a converted penalty by Lawrence Mwehiwa.
Bllue Eagles were held to a one all draw by Dwangwa United who were closing their Super League season. Matembo Msowoya was on target for the law enforcers while Morris Chiumya scored for Dwangwa.
Tony Chitsulo of Silver Strikers was named player of the month of January 2010 on Saturday and received a miniature, a branded TNM golf shirt, cap plus K 10,000.00 from the sponsors.
Zomba United finish their assignments in the league when they play host to Tigers F.C in Zomba on Saturday. It remains to be seen if EPAC United will continue with their winning ways under their new coach Abasi Makawa when they host Civo United the same day in Lilongwe the same day.
Tony Chitsulo the current top goal scorer in the league is the player who has scored the most goals in a single game, seven. Chikaiko Bridge of Tigers and Victor Phiri of Red Lions follow him with four goals each. All of them claimed their goals when played Nkhatabay who have set a new record of conceding a whopping 104 goals.
Victor Nyirenda claimed the first hat trick in the elite league when he starred for Nomads against Dwangwa United. He had his second hat trick after signing for Escom United against Nkhatabay United. Henry Kabichi and Roland Zulu both of Blackpool together with Sunganani Thomas of EPAC United are the other players to have scored a hat trick in the league.
